Ah, court. Somewhere that Lily tried to avoid as much as humanly possible. It was essentially a social gathering for the aristocracy to talk, sometimes drink wine, and generally discuss one another's business, whether it be official or not. It wasn't something that Lily was particularly interested in, she visited occasionally in order to make sure that she was aware of the latest scandals, and what the King was up to, but otherwise, she steered well clear.
Today, however, she was here looking for someone, someone who, the previous evening, had said he would be here. In their short but interesting encounter, Lily had found herself intrigued, and amused, by Gerald, a kindred spirit when it came to court life. He could keep up with her wit, revelled in it, even. And although she wouldn't admit it to his face, she quite liked the man. They could certainly stir up a storm here today... if he deigned to grace them with his presence.
The ladies were already whispering, their eyes glancing in Lily's direction as they pondered over why she was here, alone... and in that dress. They hadn't seemed to realise that this was the norm for her. She would let them trifle over her presence a little longer before she gave in and struck up a conversation. Another five minutes perhaps...

Discomfort was written all over the noble's face as he walked into court. He had been forced by the shrew of a stepmother of his to wear his court clothes instead of the common clothing he usually wore by choice. The only good that could come out of this night is seeing Lily, she is an amusing one. Gerald had barely even stepped into the center of the hall when he was barraged by single courtiers and married ladies alike. He scowled, he hated this. One lady in particular was trying very hard to get his attention, she had been ever since word got out that he was no longer a married man. And tonight the Lady Amelia was in full form, she shoved another lady away and took his elbow.
Gerald gave her his usual look of disinterest as she blathered on about the other ladies being desperate and needy, he found it ironic but mostly annoying. A certain dress caught his attention and a smile formed itself on his face. He pried his arm away fro Lady Amelia and walked straight to the out of place dress. He snuck up behind Lily and whispered in her ear. "And here I was looking forward to seeing you in a flowing gown that screamed noble, how disappointing, Lily."

A smirk crept across Lily's face as she finally heard Gerald's voice in her ear. "Well, I had to catch your attention somehow, didn't I? And how better to do that than with a scandalous dress." At this, she turned, smiling up at his handsome face. "I'm not sure I can say the same for you. I half expected you to turn up in your usual attire, this however..." she tugged the front of his jacket, "no wonder I didn't spot you sooner, you're camouflaged, disguised as an actual noble of the court." Not his choice no doubt.
Taking his arm, so that the ladies would know not to attempt to steal him away from her - they most certainly knew better than that - she smirked again, "so, you don't like the dress then? Shame, because I wore it just for you." She wafted the skirt of her dress around a little, the silky material flowing around her legs.

Gerald had no issue with Lily taking hold of his arm, she wasn't an irritation waiting to happen like Lady Amelia. He placed his hand on top of her fingers on his arm to show his obvious approval of her forwardness. "It is a lovely dress indeed, but I would minimize drawing attention to your legs, some fellow might get the notion to try and sway you off my arm." Gerald found being around Lily made being forced here more enjoyable than he had expected.
She knows exactly how to grab attention, to say the least. He had found the remark about his clothing amusing, how would she react when he told her his six year old daughter had dressed him this evening? His daughter had begged him to bring her with him, but he wasn't quite ready to expose her to full out courtier life, the one's at his father's estate weren't as crowded and extreme as the King's. "Do you not like my outfit? That will disappoint Anna, she dressed me after all. She picked it out and my stepmother enforced it."

Lily chuckled, "I shall leave my legs well alone, then, although I hoped you might be able to fend off a simple courtier. If one approaches, perhaps we should just run away, like we did the other evening?" That might look a little peculiar in the middle of court, but she wasn't exactly known at the normal one to begin with. She wasn't criticisng his choice to flee either, the man would have put up quite the fight, one which neither of them would have been prepared for, with Lily being in a dress, and Gerald being inebriated.
"Oh, well then," she said, having received new information, "I take it back. If your daughter was the one who dressed you, then obviously it is perfect." She smiled up at him, she would never tease him about his daughter, or tease his daughter, should they ever meet, she knew what it was like to lose a parent. "Alas, I didn't have anyone to pick an outfit for me, but we've already established that I didn't do too badly myself." She could hear the low hum of the court musicians playing gentle background music for those who weren't busy chattering away. They did a good job. Her attention was wandering, however.
"So," she said to Gerald, "now that you are here, what are we supposed to do?"
